FR. FRANCIS XAVIER LASANCE
Reverend Francis Xavier Lasance was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1860 (January 24). He studied at St. Xavier College (now known as Xavier University), then went on to St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana. He was ordained a priest May 24, 1883, and for seven years he served as assistant and rector in several parishes of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Due to a physical breakdown he was forced to give up active parish work in 1890, and after a visit to Europe, he was appointed chaplain to the Sisters of Notre Dame in his native city. During this period, he wrote over three dozen devotional books, for which he received a special blessing from Pope Pius XI in 1927. He died in 1946 (December 11) at the age of 86.
